British Columbia receives $4.7M in funding for Healthtech SMEs, including MetaOptima
MetaOptima is one of 35 companies selected to receive funding from the new Healthtech SME Program by Circle Innovation. This program is funded by PacifiCan and supports the British Columbia healthcare sector for developing solutions and technologies.
Circle Innovation's new Healthtech SME Program
The Healthtech SME Program is organized by Circle Innovation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing technological solutions in healthcare. They help small to medium-sized enterprises manage their growth, provide R&D support, and get through stages of commercialization. Circle Innovation is vital in bringing groundbreaking solutions to the market. This program is funded from PacifiCan, the Government of Canada's agency of economic development. Together, they help innovative solutions develop faster for market arrival.
The launch of the program came at the announcement of PacifiCan's new headquarters in Surrey, British Columbia. The announcement of the new space was celebrated, as well as the start of the program and its recipients. 35 companies will receive funding for over 40 projects to develop, market, and extend new technologies. Four companies were specially invited to meet the Minister, including MetaOptima, to demonstrate the products that PacifiCan's funding have helped produce.

We had the pleasure of meeting the Honourable Harjit S. Sajjan and his team at the announcement. There, we showcased our mobile dermatoscope, MoleScope, seamlessly integrate to DermEngine, our intelligent dermatology platform. Together, they allow the high quality imaging of lesions and artificial-intelligence (AI)-powered analysis as a secondary support to experts. DermEngine supports medical professionals with the latest tools to help manage their practice, clinical workflow, and diagnostic decisions. As a cloud-based software, there are the additions of new features and helpful tools regularly.
According to Circle Innovation, the $4.7 million program will create "at least 85 highly paid, highly skilled jobs" in BC's healthcare sector while ensuring "technology breakthroughs translate into tangible benefits for patients across our province".
