The Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) looks to potentiate the free-trade business and stimulate tax-free international commerce among members. Officially signed in March 2018, this agreement brings together a block of countries comprised of Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Japan, and other pacific nations amounting to a net worth of 13.5 trillion dollars, the world’s third largest of its kind.
1. CPTPP and a new era of tax-free trade with strong international markets
Inclusive of some of the largest economies in the world such as Japan or Mexico, the CPTPP represents the chance to build strategic relationships among block members in order to increase business exchanges. After the original agreement seal at the beginning of 2018, members followed through in completing the official ratification process, to which 11 of them have finalized last December allowing the whole agreement to enter into force that same month.
Although negotiations still continue to establish the specific bilateral trading conditions, this fully effective partnership is set to bring enormous benefits to the economies of participating stakeholders. So much so, it is expected to reduce or directly eliminate a large number of exporting and importing fees that are normally associated with international business. For Canada’s traditional trading partners such as Australia or Mexico, this will represent an opportunity to promote their ongoing commercial interaction. Similarly, for developing business relationships like Asian markets with some South American counterparts, it implies the exploration of potentially successful overseas trade to develop in the near future.
On Monday February 11th, the Government of Canada through its Trade Commissioner Service was responsible for the introduction of the program to Canadian businesses and associates during a meeting in Vancouver, BC. With the participation of several Senior Trade Commissioners from signatory countries, this event represented the beginning of exploring mutually-beneficial exchanges with CPTPP members.
“Our new Asia Pacific agreement is a bridge that will enable people, goods and services to be shared more easily with half a billion new customers. This latest agreement will make it easier for Canadian entrepreneurs to seize opportunities and create good, well-paying jobs for Canada’s middle class and those working hard to join it.” says the Honourable Jim Carr, Minister of International Trade Diversification.
2. MetaOptima tax-free trading with Australia/New Zealand healthcare business sector
The international expansion endeavours currently pursued by MetaOptima are inclusive of a growing presence in the Australian and New Zealander markets. The company’s Australian offices are currently working together with Canadian and Australian government authorities to implement the regulatory licensing in order to directly benefit from the free-trade advantages available through the implementation of the CPTPP.
MetaOptima’s signature products DermEngine (dermatology software) and MoleScope (mobile dermoscope )are currently undergoing the necessary regulatory and compliance processes to obtain a certificate of origin that guarantees its Canadian manufacturing. Export of these products to Australia and New Zealand under the CPTPP agreement will eliminate the need to pay associated international trade taxes, a clear commercial advantage given the growing numbers of medical enterprises and dermatology clinics adopting this technology for their daily workflows.
MetaOptima looks with great anticipation to the enormous trading opportunities that arise from Canada’s active involvement in the CPTPP. As the company’s global influence continues to grow, immersion into new markets will be positively impacted by the establishment of strategic commercial partnerships leveraged through the CPTPP. MetaOptima joins many other Canadian businesses in celebrating the diversification of trading opportunities that can help boost a strong and dynamic economy contributing to the high-standard of life that Canada is internationally known for.
